I was recently given an opportunity to review the Candy Land collection by Nail Hoot Lacquer. Nail Hoot is a relatively new brand on the indie scene. The brains and creativity behind Nail Hoot is Brandie Collins, and she is definitely making a space for herself in the indie market!
The Candy Land Collection is inspired by the Candy Land children’s game, and each polish represents a character in the game. So let’s take a look…
Kandy Krunch
Kandy Krunch is described as a burnt copper orange polish filed with fiery micro glitters and larger orange and brown glitters. This polish is inspired by “King Kandy” from Candy Land.
Kandy Krunch went on in 2 easy coats. It is loaded with glitter so you may want a nice thick top coat to smooth it out and enhance the shine. My swatches are 2 coats with Seche Vite top coat.
My Green Plum
My Green Plum is described as a beautiful green polish that flashes blue and purple. It is filled with micro glitters for added sparkle and shine. This polish is inspired by “Plumpy” from Candy Land.
Another smooth easy formula in this one. It’s a bit more sheer so I used 3 thin coats plus Seche Vite top coat.
Ice Queen
Ice Queen is described as a light purple polish with small pink glitters dispersed throughout. It appears to be icy blue in some lights and purple in others. It is inspired by “Queen Frostine” from Candy Land.
I used 3 thin coats for these swatches and finished it off with Seche Vite top coat. This one appeared mostly pale blue to me, but now I’m intrigued if a purple shift comes out in brighter light. Either way I love this color, with all those purple glitters. Queen Frostine would be proud!
Licorice Twist
Licorice Twist is described as a chocolate-mauve polish with flashes of blue and multiple micro glitters. It is inspired by “Lord Licorice” from Candy Land.
My initial swatch of Lord Licorice was 2 coats and still had some slight visible nail line, and I felt like the color wasn’t popping as well as it could. So I would recommend planning for 3 coats, it really does make a difference. Smooth easy application with Seche Vite top coat.
Gramma Sparkle Berry
Gramma Sparkle Berry is described as a true blue polish that is filled with purple and turquoise micro sparkles. It is inspired by “Gramma Nutt” from Candy Land.
The formula on Gramma Sparkle Berry was like glorious blue butter. I used 3 thin coats for my swatches below, finished off with Seche Vite top coat.
Pros: Good formula with very unique colors. They match their inspiration so well! All Nail Hoot polishes are 5-free.
Cons: Have a high quality top coat on hand. A couple of these dry matte with a slight texture, but a nice thick layer of top coat evens them right out and brings out the shine.
My Thoughts: A well thought out collection with fun inspiration. You can really see the characters in each polish. My personal favorites are Kandy Krunch and Gramma Sparkle Berry.
Nail Hoot polishes retail for $6.50 for a 15mL bottle and are available on https://www.etsy.com/shop/NailHoot
