Color Club Pop Chalk Mighty Mattes ~ Summer 2016

Hello my friends! Today I have the Color Club Pop Chalk Mighty Mattes Collection to show you. This collection has a fun 80’s school yard bright neon theme that many can appreciate! I purchased this collection with some definite hesitation though, after all I found the Fall Matte Rouge collection to be quite disastrous (review here.) So let’s get right to the review and see if this collection makes the grade.

Color Club Study Buddy
Study Buddy is a neon coral matte polish. The formula on this was a bit streaky on the first coat but evened out on the second coat. My swatches are 2 coats with no top coat.

Color Club Chalk it Up
Chalk it Up is a bright white matte polish. I didn’t find this one to self level on its own so it’s a bit wavy on the finish. I did choose to show this as just a single coat.  That is often the basis for what is considered a good white polish, and I felt this really wasn’t bad for a single coat and no top coat.

Color Club Trapper Keeper
Trapper Keeper is a teal blue neon polish. I wasn’t able to capture the true color, it leans a little bit more teal in real life. The formula really wasn’t bad, I got full even coverage in 2 coats, and it eventually self leveled on its own. This is 2 coats with no top coat.

Color Club Tic-Tac-Toe
Tic-Tac-Toe is a bright neon green matte polish. The formula was smooth although a bit streaky on the first coat. At 2 coats it evened out nicely and self leveled.

Color Club Extra Credit
Extra Credit is a pretty pale yellow matte polish. Unfortunately the formula isn’t near as appealing. This goes on quite streaky and needs 3 coats to cover, at which point it starts feeling very goopy. It also has virtually no self leveling. I only have one picture of this one as I got quite frustrated and wanted the goopy mess off my nails stat!

Color Club School Yard Crush
School Yard Crush is a pastel neon peach matte polish. This covered nicely in just 2 coats and self leveled fairly nicely. Definitely one of the winners of this collection.

Color Club Cliff Notes
Cliff Notes is a neon yellow matte polish. This one was pretty streaky and needed 3 coats to even out. Not the greatest in terms of formula but not the worst either, its manageable.

My Thoughts: While this collection has it’s problematic formulas it also has some nice polishes as well as a couple clear winners. As I said at the beginning of my post I bought this collection with some real hesitancy, understandably so considering the exceptionally poor reviews myself and other bloggers gave the Matte Rouge collection last fall. If I were to compare this collection to the Matte Rouge collection I would have to say it’s the clear winner, as this has atleast a few good polishes in the bunch. So while it’s a huge improvement I would still probably forgo the full collection in favor of just picking out a few of the best. For me those would be  Study Buddy, Chalk it Up, Trapper Keeper, and School Yard Crush.

Hope you found this helpful. Will you be picking up any of these?
Until next time, stay polished!

I’m surprised you didn’t name Tic Tac Toe in the list of the ones you liked. I like all of the ones you named plus Tic Tac Toe and Cliff Notes.
