Hey all! I’m really enjoying doing these Throwback Thursday posts. It’s giving me a chance to try some older polishes that would likely sit in my helmers another 5 years otherwise, and it’s a nice break in my routine. Last week I featured a polish that is only a few years old, but today’s is much older than that. For the purpose of this blog series anything 10 years or older will be referred to as vintage. Although I will also be featuring Rare, HTF or newer but discontinued brands. That way you get more variety and I never run out of content!
Today I’m showing off Sally Hansen Burgundy Orchid from the Nail Prisms line. This line debuted in 2002 and it was definitely the first of its kind! Since this was a very popular line there are still lots of these floating around, some shades are really easy to hunt down while others are VHTF. Burgundy Orchid lies somewhere in the middle. Just as I sat down to write this post I was able to find one bottle on Amazon for roughly $25.
I am clearly spoiled by today’s multichromes as I didn’t think about using a black base until after applying my 4 coats, only the second time I’ve ever done 4 coats. Ain’t nobody got time for that! 😂 These older multichromes really need that dark base for all the colors to pop. The amber shift is pretty subtle in my swatches, but is quite prominent in other swatches I found. Either way it’s a gorgeous polish, and I can only imagine the excitement over these back in their day.
I decided to reswatch this over black to see how much of a difference it made. It brings out the purple really well, but the other colors were actually much harder to capture.. both to the eye and the camera.
Hope you enjoyed todays post and I will see you next Thursday with another great vintage find!
Until next time, stay polished!
