It’s Day 2 of the February Digit-al Dozen. The Digital Dozen is a small group of highly skilled bloggers and nail artists who do 5 themed manis each month. The theme for February is ‘Mythical Creatures’ and for today’s mani I went with Mermaids. I went a little.. erm a lot.. over-the-top with this mani, full of sparkle, stamping, bling, and all sorts of charms. Not my normal style, but I loved doing it!Let’s take a look…
As I’ve mentioned before joining The Digit-al Dozen was a great way to bring more nail art back to my blog, but the other part is pushing myself to step outside my box. I can always throw something together quickly, but that doesn’t further my skills. So that’s the biggest reason I went over-the-top with this mani. 🙂
Polishes Used (It’s a long list!):
- Painted Polish Midnight Mischief
- Painted Polish Tide Pool Teal
- Painted Polish Mermaid Melody
- China Glaze Intelligence, Integrity & Courage
- Dreamland Lacquer Lazy River
- Colors by Llarowe Sparkles are a Girls Best Friend
- Girly Bits Pirate Booty
- Sally Hansen Go For Gold
- Chick Lacquer Baby Cakes
- Polish my Life Vail
So for the base color for this mani I immediately reached for Dreamland Lacquer Lazy River, as I’ve used it before for mermaid nails. But then I saw Painted Polish Mermaid Melody and thought it would be perfect (and I love using appropriately named polishes based on the nail art.) I applied 2 coats of Mermaid Melody and just wasn’t really feeling it, so on a whim I topped it with one coat of Lazy River. I really liked it that way, the mix of both gave me just the look I was imagining.
What do you think of my over-the-top mermaid nails? As a longtime nail girl I’ve done lots of mermaid nails, but I wanted these to stand apart and I believe they do.You can follow The Digital Dozen here on Instagram. My social media links are below. And definitely check out the inlinkz, this is a group of very talented ladies! It’s so much fun and very inspiring to be a part of such an amazing group.
